5 of the best dates in Cartagena, Colombia

Another first trip in the books… this time in the colorful city of Cartagena, Colombia! Here are 5 best dates ideas on your visit to Cartagena.
Enjoy the artwork
The street art in Cartagena was breathtaking and reflected the beautiful diversity of the country— a mix of Spanish, African and Indian cultures. We toured museums, and strolled along the streets checking out the wall art installations. Even Starbucks had a gorgeous mural inside. Several murals were in progress while we were there– it was fascinating to watch local artist do their thing!
Book a spa day
4 hour spa treatment….? Y’all. Our spa days were an absolute dream (especially for Roy who may or may not have fallen asleep mid treatment). One US dollar is the equivalent of 4,091 Colombian pesos. Our dollars stretched far enough that our 4-hour spa treatment in Cartagena was about what we’d pay on a 1-hr spa treatment at home in Houston. Needless to say, we found time for the spa every day on our trip, and have ZERO regrets for all the much needed time spent relaxing.
have dinner on a rooftop
The sunset skyline was quite a site! We enjoyed the view at night seeing the city lights after dark. Cartagena’s rooftops provide a fabulous view of the Caribbean Sea, the sunset, and the historic city. The sparkling coastline, warm tropical breeze and colorful buildings were a perfect backdrop for a sunset dinner. Cartagena is well known for its rich culinary scene which perfectly blends Spanish, Caribbean, and African influences.
Go for a rooftop swim
Repeat everything above! The rooftop scene was perfect for dinner and for an afternoon (or morning) swim. We had lunch poolside and had THE best sea bass ever.
Spend a day shopping
As we strolled around the streets there was a lovely mix of street vendors, street art, street performances and local owned shops. Not sure where else you can go shopping AND have a whole rap song made about you! Note: the crowd of 5-8 guys would wow us with a rap about us, then expect tips lol. We of course obliged the first couple of groups, but learned we’d be out of pesos if we dished out cash for every group that approached us. It was a fun & unique experience we hadn’t experienced yet in other cities/countries we’ve visited.
All in all, we loved Cartagena and look forward to visiting again. See more of the jaw dropping art in Cartagena here on my Tik Tok posts here.
