Ultimate Couples’ Getaway at Sandals Resort Curaçao – The Best Kept Secret in the Caribbean

Looking for the perfect couples’ getaway in the Caribbean? Sandals Resort Curaçao is an idyllic destination that many travelers still haven’t discovered. Nestled among the ABC Islands—Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao—this hidden gem is the ultimate tropical escape. Known for its Dutch-inspired architecture, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant coral reefs, Curaçao is a dream location to unplug and relax..

My husband and I recently joined seven other couples from Houston for our annual “Baecation” at Sandals Curaçao. We arrived on Saturday morning, excited to experience this luxurious resort and explore one of the best-kept secrets in the Caribbean.

First Night at Cascada Rooftop Bar & Lounge

Our first night in Curaçao began with dinner downtown in Willemstad at the stunning Cascada Rooftop Bar & Lounge. This spot offers panoramic views, perfect for watching the sun dip below the horizon. The ambiance was lively, thanks to a live DJ, and the shared plates of appetizers were a hit with our group. Cascada set the stage for the rest of our trip and gave us a taste of the vibrant nightlife Curaçao has to offer.

Resort Amenities: Infinity Pool, Swim-Up Bar, and Private Beach

One of the best parts of Sandals Curaçao is the incredible range of resort amenities. We spent our first full day lounging by the infinity pool with breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. The swim-up bar was an added bonus, allowing us to sip on tropical cocktails without ever leaving the water. The private Sandals beach was serene, offering soft sand, clear water, and plenty of lounge chairs—a true paradise.

Snorkeling Adventure at Sandals Curaçao

For those who love snorkeling, Sandals Curaçao includes a complimentary snorkeling excursion that’s just a short 10-minute boat ride away. This snorkeling spot is rich with vibrant coral reefs and a diverse array of tropical fish. It was a highlight of our trip, offering about 30-45 minutes of underwater exploration and stunning ocean views. This excursion is perfect for those who want to experience Curaçao’s marine life without committing to a full-day trip.

Day Trip to Klein Curaçao Island with Miss Anne’s Boat Tours

If you’re looking to explore beyond the resort, a day trip to Klein Curaçao is a must. We booked a private yacht with Miss Anne’s Boat Tours, which took us to this secluded island, also known as Little Curaçao. The day was packed with activities—breakfast and lunch on the beach, swimming in the impossibly blue waters, and a walk to the island’s shipwreck and abandoned lighthouse. The guided snorkeling around Klein Curaçao was unforgettable; we even had the chance to feed tropical fish. This day trip was an amazing experience and well worth the short boat ride from the main island.

Exploring Willemstad, Curaçao’s Colorful Capital

One of the unique aspects of Curaçao is Willemstad, its vibrant capital. Our group spent a day wandering the historic streets lined with colorful Dutch-inspired architecture. Willemstad offers a rich blend of culture and history, with waterfront views and plenty of shopping, dining, and sightseeing opportunities.

Sandals Curaçao: Pros and Cons

Overall, Sandals Curaçao was a beautiful, well-maintained resort with lush landscaping and a clean, luxurious feel. However, there were a few areas that could be improved:

  • Customer Service: The resort was well-staffed, but customer service felt a bit lacking at times. Staff were friendly but seemed stretched thin, and it sometimes took a while to get assistance.
  • Club Level Rooms: We opted for club-level rooms, expecting a premium experience. However, aside from a VIP check-in, we didn’t notice much difference compared to friends who didn’t book club-level rooms. It didn’t feel worth the extra cost, and if there was a butler assigned to our room, we never encountered them.
  • Gym and Spa Facilities: While the resort was generally luxurious, the gym was basic, and the spa lacked amenities like hydrotherapy pools, a sauna, or a steam room. This was a bit disappointing, especially for those expecting a high-end spa experience.
  • Food Quality: Like many all-inclusive resorts, the food was somewhat hit or miss. Some meals were delicious, while others fell short of expectations. Cons
